Massachusetts
Soldiers
and
Sailors of the Revolutionary War is a
compilation of service records for all Massachusetts men who are
documented to have performed war service between 1775 and 1783. The
task of compiling its 17 volumes was begun as a result of the General
Court’s 1891 legislation calling for an indexed list of Revolutionary
War service. The work commenced that same year and the volumes were
successively published between 1896 and 1908. The result was
approximately 688,000 entries.
IMPORTANT NOTE OF INTEREST: The State of Maine was still a part of Massachusetts during the American Revolution. Consequently this set actually contains information about soldiers and sailors from both Massachusetts and what is now Maine as well as various Rhode Island regiments and the First New York Regiment. This disk contains images of every page of the original seventeen volumes of one of the most valuable genealogy resources available. Reprints of these books will cost hundreds of dollars and the complete set (if found available) would cost thousands. In contrast, the CD version weighs one-half ounce, is easier to search and is available for a far more affordable price.
About Our CDs Many of our CDs are composed of collections of multiple texts and documents concentrating on specific regions or subject areas. Many contain 5, 10 or more separate publications. Each CD is truly a reference BONANZA to the home historian with thousands of pages of research information. The age of most of these text make them inaccessible to the average researcher. Naturally their scarcity and fragility makes them very expensive to acquire hence often kept under lock and key in an effort to preserve them. Unfortunately this also makes them unavailable for public view. Our CDs are produced by scanning the actual pages of the original text making them not only excellent resources but archival copies available for future generations. If you could find a hard copy of any of these books it would cost hundreds of dollars - individually worth many times the cost of a CD. The average cost of a single CD, containing our "theme or regional" based collections has been kept affordable in an effort to make this information obtainable to as many home researchers as possible.
